Arrival at Delft

I arrived at schipol airport on 18th August. Trivik from TU delft was waiting for me at the arrivals. He had already picked up two fellow students - Andrei from Romania and Carla from Spain. While waiting for the bus arranged by the university we were joined by guys from Taipei, Canada, Sweden,Croatia, Romania and Venezuela. In all, there were around 12 people. This gave a hint on what was about to come in next few days. What makes TU delft different is diversity. Where on earth you will find people from 110 countries living happily. It is a global university in true sense.

The journey from airport to the delft city lasted for in and around 40 minutes.Well, Delft is a peaceful small city yet beautiful. It has small cottages and canals where ducks and geese roam around. We were taken to survival cafe in the faculty of architecture where initial details were briefed and keys to our rooms where given to us.

Visa as a TU delft student

Once accepted, each and every aspect of visa is taken care by international office of TU delft. They send two applications (3 pages long) by mail, one is the D-type visa and another is an MVV form. You just need to fill them and send.

Why D-type visa is required for Non-EU students?

  • The way things work in EU is before you get a residence permit as a student for 2 years, you need to be inside he country
  • Once you get a D-type visa which lasts for 90 days, you will register with the municipality
  • Once your registration process is successful, you are entitled for a residence permit

What happens once IND (Foreign affairs of The Netherlands) grants you visa?

  • Once granted, you need to go to one of the embassy and get the visa printed on your passport
  • As a applicant for TU delft, it is highly possible that you will not be questioned much and probably the whole process might take around 10 mins
  • The D-type visa is valid from the day it is printed on your passport for next 90 days.

Tuberculosis test for non-EU students.

It sounds pretty scary but it is just one seconds procedure where an x-ray of your chest is taken. If you have a residence permit of any other EU nation which is still valid, you can avoid this test.
